The Rwandan Genocide is one of the most amazing wars I know of. A long building fight against country men with no real biological difference. The Hutu and Tutsi. It occured at twice the rate of the Jewish genocide and by the end between 5,000 and 1million Tutsi alone were murdered. In a sad lack of judgement, though the UN forsaw this event they did nothing to stop it. Not only that but they refused to declare it genocide because that would mean they had to step in. There were 2,500 soldiers sent to the country and they were quickly sent home. A vote was eventually call at the end of the deadly month resulting in a call for 5,500 troops to head back in. They delay two more days to bicker over who will pay for it at which point the US is requested to pay. The US argues over price and deployment is further delayed. Finally the Security Council aithorizes French deployment a full month later. At this point approximately 800,000 are dead in the 100 days passed.
I gathered this imformation and painted this for a project in English MONTHS ago. The numbers always feel off to me...But still..Isn't that just astounding? Grah! X_x *dies thouroughly* Ok so this is the picture I promised. Not nearly good enough for the trouble I went through to get it up here. My mom took it to work, scanned it onto Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader is a big old hermit. It will not not not connect with any other program directly. So after a long fruitless search to make it..I rediscovered the copy and paste buttons. Then there's the fact that this file is unbearably huge! My computer combusted twice. It was very sad. I had to flip it. Cut it out. Narrow the page by hand. Recopy it down. Oh my gaaaaaw! <O> I loathe and abore computers! ...Anywho..Enjoy!
So done with water colors..The actual painting and drawing took an hour or so. Yes I know the eyes aren't identical..but not all eyes are (0.o) Look at the tears! Aren't they awesome! And the patterns for the border around her. I used the brush, my finger, and a napkin! Hoorah!
Not counting it as mature because I don't think it is. It's not gory in any way. These are just some angry harsh colors.
That war is something so terrible and absurd... it is really important that artist call the atention to it, so congratulations. Your picture is very sad and dramatic, it really reflects the pain of that war. And most of all, I admire the fact that you care about it so much.
